mini - flo!

Thursday, May 29, 2008

God showed up for our final FLO service of the season!

It was another awesome night at FLO!

It began with a wonderful meal thanks to Marsha and her team of helpers. On the menu was grilled chicken with onions and green peppers, topped with cheese... baked potatoes and salad. It was great!

We had a special guest for the evening. Beverly came to sign along with music. There was a special anointing on her and her signing. The presence of God was felt by all in the sanctuary as she signed along with four songs. So much so in fact it took a moment for Pat to find words to begin her lesson.

Throughout the lessons taught at FLO the theme has been worth. What are we worth?

She is worth far more than rubies. Proverb 31:10

We have spent time looking at ourselves in the mirror, realizing we are not junk... because God doesn't make junk. We have examined ourselves and how we forgive others who have hurt us and also considered self forgiveness.

We watched a video showing a male bird show off for a female bird. The female bird waited for him to finish and then flew away as if to say, "no thank you."

When we are choosing a person to be our mate, God confirms the right one. There may be many who come along before the right one is presented to us. Using discernment is important to choose a person to live the rest of your life with.

Living together should never be an option when choosing a person to marry. Not only is it living a sinful life, it is also setting yourself up for a failure. It always brings to mind the old statement, "why buy the cow when you get the milk for free."

We also watched a clip from the movie, "The Stepford Wives." Being a cookie cutter mold of perfection is not what God intended for women. We were created to be helpmates to our husbands, and to be ourselves... in Christ. We do have a voice and a purpose.

The four FLO evenings have been informative and a great opportunity for self reflection and growth. If you have not made it to a FLO yet, mark your calendar now for September 9! We are taking the Summer off from FLO but plan to start again in the Fall.

A huge thank you to Pat Franks. God directed FLO, and Pat listened and obeyed. Thank you Pat for having a heart for women and for the pain that is in their hearts. We pray that FLO continues to grow and touch women and heal hearts!

Thank you to Ronna & Marsha and all the helpers for coordinating the meals and all your hard work!

Thanks to Jordan for keeping the kids entertained during the services each week!

Thank you to Miki for leading our worship!

Thank you to Jessica for running the sound system so efficiently!

Thank you to you, for coming to FLO!!

SEE YOU IN SEPTEMBER!

Another FLO!

Our third FLO night was great!
There was a feast of fruit and veggies, fit for a king (or Daniel).
Pat started our lesson for the evening with a reading from 2 Samuel 13.
These scriptures tell us about Tamar who was the sister of Absalom. Her half brother Amnon was in love with her. He was convinced he should deceive her to come into his room and prepare food for him, and feed him with her hands. While she was doing as he had asked, thinking he was ill, he grabbed her and raped her. After he had done such a terrible thing to Tamar he had her thrown out of his home and said he hated her now more than he had ever loved her. The last thing we hear about Tamar is that she lived as a desolate woman in Absalom's house.
What a story.
Many of us have been hurt in different ways. By men, by women, by family, by life.
Pat continued to encourage us to get it out so that we can get all that God has for us. To live life fully in Christ, all hurt has to be laid at the foot of the cross. All the hurt. You can't keep any of it for yourself if you want to move forward.
God loves us all! Remember, we are more precious than rubies! (Proverbs 3:15)
Next month (May) is our last FLO until Fall. I can't wait to hear the next chapter in this series of lessons.

FLO ~ March 11

It was another wonderful night at FLO (for ladies only). Please mark your calendars RIGHT NOW for next month's FLO. You don't want to miss it! It's the second Tuesday of the month, next month it is on April 8.

We had a wonderful meal. Ronna made delicious spaghetti and garlic bread. Everyone really enjoyed the meal as well as the fellowship. The ladies who helped put together the meal really went the extra mile to make sure everything was delicious.

As we entered the sanctuary, we were given a backpack to wear, and then we were instructed to keep it on until told to remove it. It was a little cumbersome, not too light. Some had a soda inside, some had decorative rocks. These backpacks were meant to represent unforgiveness. It's ugly. Unforgiveness is like taking poison, and then expecting it to hurt someone else. It just doesn't. It only hurts you. I know I personally was glad to remove my backpack. Forgiving someone, regardless of the hurt they have done to me, or the desire to have my forgiveness... it's so important to grow and move forward in Christ.

Pat talked about three aspects of forgiveness. We must forgive God, others, and ourselves. The four stages of dealing with grief are shock ... denial... anger... and then acceptance. Sometimes we get stuck in denial, or maybe anger.

Some scriptures shared were:
He has removed our rebellious acts as far away from us as the east is from the west. Psalm 103:12
"If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins. Matthew 6:14-15
"Stop judging others, and you will not be judged. Stop criticizing others, or it will all come back on you. If you forgive others, you will be forgiven. If you give, you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full measure, pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, and running over. Whatever measure you use in giving-large or small-it will be used to measure what is given back to you." Luke 6:37-38

Thank you Pat for sharing such an important message, and for sharing it from your heart.

Here are a few pictures from the evening!
